“Faces” 😊  Workshop in San Miguel de Allende

John and I truly enjoyed teaching “The Face as Muse” workshop in lovely San Muigel recently. Every workshop has a special combination of learning, joy and laughter, and this one was filled with fun loving, talented folks who made the entire trip an artful adventure and a true pleasure.

Many thanks to Kathie Vezzani and Ana Elena of Bellissima Art Escapes for making our time together so full of art, culture, fun and delicious culinary delights. The colorful city of San Muigel brings out the artist and explorer in us all.

Here are a few photos!

Feeling inspired :)

IMG_4081-0
I hope you are enjoying lots of creativity these days. 2015 has been a great year for inspiration. I have truly enjoyed being a co-teacher with Carla Sonheim in our yearlong class 2015 Year of the Spark
Sharing so much artfulness with wonderful people from all over the globe has been a great gift.
Our community of talented, funny, generous creative spirits warms my heart every single day.
You guys rock!
And your art is Amazing!
So thanks to you all!!!!!!
We are continually astounded and inspired by you!!

Carla’s latest lesson has inspired me as well. She had us start by doing charcoal drawings from our childhood photos or childhood drawings. Next we paint with freedom of a child. (There are a few more steps here)

I loved doing the drawings!! Somehow my drawings took a different turn and became the bottom layer for a new series of paintings that feature flowers that are wildly overflowing in pots.

Thank you Carla for inspiring me to move my hands and trust the process 🙂 You are a tremendous artist and gifted teacher.
With love!!
Xoxo

Collage for The Documented Life Project

I’m excited to be a featured artist for Art to the 5th’s Documented Life Project
This weeks challenge asks us to use ephemera, old photos and to focus on memories.
Our Prompt quote is by the very popular singer, songwriter Jim Croce, “All that I have are these to remember you. ”

Of course, I do LOVE an old photo and some fabulous found paper, so I set about to build a small flower bouquet of family members, held by a sprite of a young gal.
Here are some photos of my process, see if you can spot the finished piece 🙂

My supplies for this challenge include: gloss medium by Liquitex, acrylic paint, white, red, raw umber for a wash, pencil, found images, old maps, pages from old magazines.
I started by laying down collage bits, chose my “hero” image, added more photos for small flowers, edited with white paint, smudged with pencil around the edges of my collages and tied it all together with small taps of color 🙂
Enjoy!!
Thanks to everyone at Arttothe5th.com for inviting me to play! I really had a blast with this challenge 🙂 great prompts!
