Sparking and Savoring the Artful Life

harbinger: noun. a forerunner of things to come

just a little somethin-somethin new from the studio

Glorious, sweet spring is approaching, and with it, a whole new season of shows. I have been playing in the studio for months, but until Mr. Deadline comes a knocking, not much new work actually goes to the finish line. It’s just the truth. For me anyway. I can la la la la la, goof and mess around on a piece, or several, but I have this little voice in my head that says, “Hey, that looks great, but, I bet you can make it better, so don’t call it done, not just yet.” So it sits…..and waits…. for that last gasp of Girl Genius to plop over and do the one brilliant thing that will take us both to the promise land.

And let me be clear. That Girl Genius….she is fickle!!

I might even call her a bit of a hussy, but I don’t want to piss her off. Without her, I can easily get to mediocre, or even OK, but I am hoping for a little more jazzy jazz in my finishes. That tiny crunch of sea salt in my chocolate, that extra something that feels like the first sip of cold beer on a Friday night.

I pine for the one drop of genius that will polish smooth my rough edges and infuse the work with the buoyant quality of a new graduate.

We hope. We always hope. Sometimes, closer to 83% is what we get, but as long as we know it’s possible to go further, then the game continues. I like that.

happy spring

  1. Lovelovelove these! And yeah, I agree about the backgrounds, they are so fun to create and the gorgeous neutrality is simply faboo. But you just make them better and better, oh genius one.

    • I’m so excited about discovering your blog. I love your work and own a tiny piece I bought at Artfest 2005. I live in CA. and so am never near your shows but someday may just buy another piece sight unseen-they are all wonderful.

      • Wasn’t Artfest amazing? I am so glad you are here! I love what you wrote! Very nice! Thank you.
We are just heading home from a show in Miami which was really enjoyable. The first real sunshine of the season and we got to hang with all our art show buddies. It’s like being in the traveling circus. We always marvel at this nutty lifestyle.
        Wishing you all the best!!

OK, so here is something that did disappoint, we just watched the Oscars, and I have to say, we were all a bit put off! I can’t figure out what was up with the camera angles, the direction? the awkwardness over all!! Did you watch?? nutty! and the crazy lady who crashed the guys speech for a documentary, AND our tevo thing cut off the last 2 awards!! HOLY POOP!

Anyhoosel, I am a bit surprised and unsatisfied! sorry, just venting, cause I LOVE Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. My fav part was Tina Fey and Robert bad boy Downey Jr.

Okay! Its all good cause tomorrow afternoon I get to paint, which will put all things back in balance!!

Yours in something clever that I can’t think of at the moment
